Puerto Viejo de Talamanca · Costa Rica
Where the world
enchants you.
Adventures that touch the heart. Experiences that stay forever.
Beyond the Shore
Puerto Viejo is not just a place. It is a feeling.
Tucked along the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, Puerto Viejo moves at a rhythm all its own. Jungle presses against the sea. Animals appear at dawn. Waves call your name. Horses wait at the water's edge. Here, every day holds a quiet magic — and the adventures are as wild and unhurried as the land itself.
01 — Jaguar Rescue Center
Where the wild
ones are protected.

Just minutes from Wabi Sabi, the Jaguar Rescue Center is one of Costa Rica's most beloved wildlife sanctuaries. Founded with a single purpose — to heal and release — it is home to sloths, jaguars, monkeys, birds, and countless creatures of the Caribbean rainforest.
Morning tours bring you face-to-face with animals rarely glimpsed in the wild. A sloth peers down from the canopy. A pair of young raccoons watch with curious eyes. The jaguar paces, silent and magnificent. It is, quite simply, unforgettable.

02 — Surf
Salsa Brava.
The Caribbean's finest wave.
Puerto Viejo is home to Salsa Brava — one of the most famous reef breaks in Central America. A powerful, fast-breaking wave over a shallow coral shelf, it draws surfers from around the world who come chasing its legendary barrels and the raw energy of the Caribbean sea.
For beginners and intermediate surfers, gentler breaks at Playa Cocles and Playa Negra offer long, welcoming rides with local instructors on hand. Whether you've never surfed or you chase perfect waves across continents — the Caribbean has a wave for you.

There is a particular kind of freedom that comes from riding a horse along a deserted Caribbean beach as the sun begins to fall. The palms lean in the breeze, the waves rush in at your side, and the world feels wider and simpler than it ever does at home.
Local guides lead small groups along Playa Cocles and into gentle jungle trails — a route that passes coconut palms, crystalline rivers, and occasional sightings of howler monkeys overhead. No experience necessary. Just a willingness to be moved.

04 — Into the Jungle
The rainforest
is alive with wonder.

The Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge stretches just south of Punta Uva — a vast, ancient expanse of primary rainforest that remains one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on earth. Trails wind through cathedral canopies where sunlight fractures into shards of green and gold.
Howler monkeys announce the morning. Basilisk lizards sprint across the forest floor. Hidden waterfalls invite you to stop and simply listen. With a local guide, the jungle reveals its secrets — and leaves you changed in ways you cannot quite explain.
